A bit of history

Apollo Music was born more than 30 years ago. More precisely on the 2nd of October, 1979. The mission of the company was selling Danish composers for publishers abroad.

Back then, the name however was not Apollo Music, but Creative Film- & Library Music APS.
It all began when a couple of composers, amongst other Wolfgang Käfer, got together and decided to make an independent platform for selling music. The main reason for this was that they were fed up with the fact that the established publishing companies claimed a huge part of the composer earnings, leaving little for the composer, even though the composers were the creators using a vast amount of time and money on writing, arranging, recording and producing the music.

Dedicated and proud of their new ownership of what should always have been theirs, the independent company had a clear focus on quality in all spectra of music. Regardless of what established publishing companies thought of them, Creative Film- & Library Music gained a lot of buzz, which led to a fast increase in both the numbers of composers and the number of international publishers representing them.
During the years it seemed a natural continuation and development of the independent company to sub-publish foreign composers and publishers in Scandinavia, since the know-how and expertise was already widely available.

The name was therefore changed to Musikforlaget Apollo, to give a clear indication that music was also represented and sold directly from the Danish company to the Scandinavian market.

As the millennium welcomed Musikforlaget Apollo, the now more than twenty year old independent company had now grown into a very serious publisher in Scandinavia. Therefore it was necessary with some managerial adjustments to fully take care of the portfolio and perform at its best.
Luckily Claus Andersen and Daniel Käfer, son of Wolfgang Käfer, decided to take over the company and continue the lead it in the right direction.
Both of them had several years of expertise and know-how in R&D, Management and Marketing from global companies.

Claus Andersen entered as CEO in Musikforlaget Apollo and amongst other things started a task of cleaning out bad habits and promote the good ones.
This led to many things, whereas one of the most important and influential was the invention of our online search music-system, giving customers the ability to search music from key-words such as feelings, emotions, styles and sound-a-likes.

One other major and obvious decision was to create Musikforlaget Apollo’s own label production-music Apollo Live. With an intense effort from the dedicated Apollo team and their composers, this library continues to grow at an unknown pace, reaching more than 50 releases in the first year of its existence, without ever compromising quality and usability. Today Apollo Live boasts more than 200+ albums.

At the very beginning of 2009, Musikforlaget Apollo opened up a branch in Warsaw, Poland as part of their do-it-yourself strategy. This was also the year where Musikforlaget Apollo grew in terms of employees. Amongst other things Musikforlaget Apollo hired employees to represent the Baltic market. Besides that, a lot of attention to detail were given to internal functions, to make the company function as lean as possible.

Therefore, at the end of 2009, it was decided to divide Musikforlaget Apollo into following three branches: Apollo Music, Apollo Live and Apollo Management.
